Red Roses

What can I say about this one?

The colors, the light, the reflections… Sublime.

Mom’s friend and fellow artist Kay Walton sent this photo to me – the original painting hangs in her home in Abilene.

Nancy’s Portrait

Mom painted this portrait of one of my sister’s high school friends, Nancy Ormsby.  Nancy and Sandi were cheerleaders together at Comanche High School.

One summer after they had graduated, Mom, who had just finished taking a portrait class in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, told Nancy that she would like to try to paint her portrait.  (Nancy was a lifeguard at the time and she and Mom visited frequently when Mom would take my brothers to the swimming pool.)  Nancy agreed and sat for a period of several weeks before it was completed.

Nancy’s husband, Jim Abbey, was kind enough to give me a photograph of this portrait and permission to add it to this collection.  Anyone who knows Nancy Abbey can see how Mom captured her likeness in this portrait – especially those beautiful blue eyes.  It’s just as I remembered her from high school.

Fancy Tea Party

Mom loved to paint children at play.  This whimsical piece hangs in the home of artist Kay Walton of Abilene, Texas.
